Terms of Service
Effective Date: February 1, 2026
Welcome to Firefly Doula. These Terms of Service govern your use of our website and any services, information, or content provided through it, including prenatal, birth, and postpartum doula services. By accessing or using this website or booking services, you agree to these Terms.
Purpose of the Website
This website provides general information about doula services, education, and offerings. It does not provide medical, mental health, or legal advice and should not be relied upon as such. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider regarding any medical or mental health concerns.
Scope of Practice
Doula care is non-medical, non-clinical support. Services may include:
- Emotional support
- Physical comfort measures
- Education and advocacy support
- Practical household or newborn support, as agreed upon
Doulas do not:
- Perform clinical or medical tasks
- Provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment
- Replace medical professionals or emergency services
Clients agree to remain under the care of a licensed medical provider for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum health.
Services Offered
Services may include, but are not limited to:
- Prenatal education and preparation
- Birth planning support
- Postpartum and newborn care support
- Emotional support and resource referrals
Note: Specific services, schedules, and scope will be discussed and agreed upon prior to the start of care.
Client Responsibilities
Clients agree to:
- Provide accurate and honest information regarding health, pregnancy, birth plans, and household needs
- Communicate changes to plans, location, or care providers in a timely manner
- Maintain a safe working environment free from hazards
- Treat the doula with respect and consideration
- Make informed decisions about care and seek professional guidance when appropriate
Informed Consent & Liability
- Clients retain full responsibility for all medical decisions
- Doulas provide information, emotional support, and guidance—not medical direction
- Clients acknowledge that pregnancy, birth, and postpartum involve inherent physical, emotional, and environmental risks
- By engaging doula services, clients release and hold harmless the doula from liability related to medical outcomes, decisions, or emergencies
- Clients also agree to indemnify the doula, its owners, contractors, and affiliates for claims, damages, or expenses arising from their actions, omissions, or use of the website or services
- Clients understand that birth and postpartum experiences can be unpredictable and outcomes cannot be guaranteed
On-Call & Availability (Birth Services)
For birth services, on-call availability typically begins at an agreed-upon gestational week and continues until birth.
Clients agree to:
- Notify the doula when labor begins or when there are significant changes
- Maintain reasonable communication during the on-call period
Note: Backup doula arrangements will be discussed if applicable.
Postpartum Support Expectations
- Postpartum services may include daytime or overnight care
- Tasks will be discussed in advance and adjusted based on family needs and capacity
- Doulas may decline tasks that fall outside the agreed scope of care or compromise safety, health, or professional boundaries
Payment & Scheduling
Payment terms, session length, packages, and scheduling policies will be outlined in a separate service agreement or invoice.
Late payments, cancellations, or rescheduling requests may be subject to policies discussed at booking.
Cancellations & Refunds
Because doula services involve reserved time and on-call availability:
- Deposits or retainers are generally non-refundable
- Refunds, if any, will be considered case-by-case
- Clients are encouraged to communicate changes as early as possible
- Specific cancellation terms will be clarified prior to the start of care
Illness & Safety
To protect both families and doulas:
- Services may be rescheduled in the event of illness, contagious conditions, or unsafe environments
- Doulas may wear protective equipment if needed
- Clients agree to disclose household illness prior to visits
Confidentiality
All personal information shared is kept confidential, except where disclosure is required by law or necessary to prevent harm.
Photography, Media, & Testimonials
No photos, recordings, or testimonials will be shared publicly without explicit written consent.
